Dr. Katie Stone explores the developmental foundations for understanding how placement transitions affect children. Drawing on evidence from developmental science, this webinar highlights the varying needs of youth during periods of change and uncertainty. We will discuss important considerations based on the developmental stage of the child. This webinar will outline key principles to guide transition planning, decision-making, and practice in child welfare, with the goal of promoting continuity, reducing harm, and supporting children’s well-being and healthy development throughout the transition process.
Dr. Katie Stone is a clinical child psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She received her PhD in clinical child psychology from the University of Kansas and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School. In line with a systems-based framework, her research and clinical work focus on the influence of interpersonal trauma and caregiver disruptions on neurodevelopment and self-regulation. Her program of research is centered on understanding pathways of risk and resilience for adversity-exposed youth.
