Description

(February 2023) Have you wondered how to support your children who were already part of your family prior to foster care or adoption? Do you wish you had a better idea of their needs and how to help? In this workshop, we will discuss how these children – The (Often) Invisible Family Members – are impacted by foster care or adoption. We will also explore how every member of the family is impacted. We will gain a new awareness of what is really happening in our families and why it can sometimes feel so stressful or chaotic. We will also learn practical, research-based strategies that have been proven to meet the needs of every member of the family and improve overall family functioning.

Dr. Jana Hunsley is the founder of Project 1025 LLC, an organization devoted to equipping and supporting adoptive and foster families. She is also an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of Texas at Dallas in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a TBRI Practitioner. Jana received her doctorate in experimental psychology from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University where her research focused on developing post-adoption interventions and understanding the needs of every member within an adoptive or foster family. Over the years, Jana has worked in various clinical settings with children and youth who have experienced trauma. She has worked with traumatized children in various clinical settings, including residential treatment, institutional care, schools, child welfare, and juvenile detention centers. Jana credits her passion for this work to her siblings who were adopted when she was a teenager.
