Description
(April 2023) Trust: The Heart of Adoption Developmental Stages
Trust is a deeply personal and fundamental life long pursuit for us all. When initial attachments are ruptured, and adoption becomes a child’s route to relational belonging, “trusting that one can trust” can be challenging through each phase of development. Through story and reflection, this practical workshop will name core trust issues as one matures from toddler to adult. Developmental strategies will be shared to build trust capacity and honor trust wounds. This workshop is for adoptive parents and the mental health professionals who accompany them, drawing from the presenter’s experience of being a therapist for decades to many adopted people learning to trust.
Krista Nelson, LICSW, LMFT, has thirty years of post-masters experience working with adopted children and parents coping with attachment loss, trauma, and family changes. She is a co-founder of Family Circle Counseling in St. Paul, MN and led the Wilder Foundation Attachment and Trauma Training program from 2001 to 2017. Today Krista is a trauma consultant to MN agencies and therapists. She remains an attachment focused family therapist who loves the balance of working with children, teens, adult adoptees, parents, and couples in their quest for healing.
