This 90 minute webinar presentation will explore the perceptions, feelings, and behaviors of stressed and distressed children to better understand what they are trying to communicate with others and how they understand the world around them. Natalie will use the Developmental Repair model as a framework to help parents and caregivers join children who have been impacted by disruptions and improve self-regulation. Specifically, Developmental Repair components around being an emotionally responsive adult, increasing safety and structure, joining the child in their experience and distress, understanding where behavior might be coming from, making sense of experiences, and useful messages and phrases will be presented.
Natalie Dunphy, MPH, LICSW received her Master’s in Social Work and Masters in Public Health from the University of Minnesota, following a BA in Psychobiology and Educational Studies at Swarthmore College. Natalie has been with Washburn Center for Children for almost a decade where she provided group, individual, and family therapy in the Day Treatment program utilizing the Developmental Repair model. Currently Natalie is the Assistant Supervisor in the Family Focused Program where she oversees therapeutic groups and provides clinical supervision and training. Her background includes social work in pediatric hospitals and schools. She has training in TF-CBT and EMDR. Natalie provides community trainings and consultation through Washburn Center’s Training Institute in Developmental Repair where she helps educators, clinicians, parents, and early childhood professionals learns ways to support children in distress.
