I believe that therapy is a process where an “I” can become a “we”; where stories don’t have to be held alone but can be shared, seen, and understood. Therapy is brave and vulnerable. I feel honored to be alongside people in this journey and work to provide a safe space as we venture into tough places.
Hi! I’m Sarah, and I’m a licensed therapist (LPCC) specializing in working with children and teens who have experienced trauma or whose personal journeys include foster care or adoption. My approach to therapy is client-centered and relational in nature. I want to get to know you – what’s happened to bring you to this place and where you hope to go next.
I provide individual and family therapy services and usually personalize our time together to not only meet the needs of my clients and their families but to value their unique experiences, backgrounds, and strengths. It’s common for me to incorporate play, bibliotherapy, role-play, art, and attachment-focused interventions in my work. I also often provide family sessions that can deepen relationships and expand understanding about ways that trauma impacts us and our path. Connection can be a powerful tool in healing, so let’s join together in moving forward.
Here are some more details about my background and ways that I can offer help:
I’m certified in Trauma-Informed Child-Parent Psychotherapy (TI-CPP) which is my favorite model for working with young children who have experienced trauma and their parents. Through play and teamwork, we can understand the experiences of children and help parents feel empowered to connect more fully with their children.
I have received certification in Permanency and Adoption work through the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare. I have pursued training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I have been working in therapy for over a decade. And now, in my current role, I mentor new therapists and train new staff about how to serve clients who’ve experienced trauma, so my personal hope is to continue to influence a further generation of helpers to better understand how to serve and care for these clients and their families.
