Professional/client relationship have to do with maintaining boundaries. When is it okay to accept a gift from a client? I’ve been invited to a client’s wedding. What do I do? One of my clients just sent me a friend request on social media. Do I accept? Issues of professional relationships, confidentiality, and self-determination will be explored. A case study format will be used extensively, so be ready to participate!
Dr. Jeremy Carney is a Professor of Social Work and Director of the Title IV-E Child Welfare Program at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He completed a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from North Dakota State University. His research interests center around ethics and professional relationships in social work practice. Jeremy’s practice experience has included child protection services, work with runaway and homeless youth, and mental health care. Jeremy is married to Jennifer Heath, and together they have two adult children, Ian and Katie.
