Make a Big Difference

Help Build Confidence for Children in Foster Care

We are raising money for the Foster Adopt Minnesota’s 6th Annual Back-to-School Shopping Event for children in foster care. Our goal is to provide children in foster care with a shopping trip that will build the confidence they need to succeed in school. This program has given over 750 children and youth in foster care, in need of a permanent home, the funds to prepare them for a successful school year.

Studies consistently show that children having this kind of shopping opportunity can improve grades, creativity, attitudes towards learning, behavior, peer relationships and self-image. They feel valued and supported by their community, boosting their confidence and motivation to try hard.

You can help!  Your donation will go to children in foster care, so they can pick out clothing, shoes, tech gear or any other essential items to start their new school year. Each child/youth receives a $200. Visa gift card to shop at stores in their community, online or on a special trip to MOA. This experience means the world to children with limited opportunity and very few choices.

Together, we can empower Minnesota children in foster care and help them flourish in school and in life. Your donation, no matter the size, can make a big difference in the life of a child.

Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of children in our community.

Testimonials

“I am very happy that he got this opportunity to get him in a more positive frame of mind as we head towards another school year. I believe, from his reaction to shopping, that being able to go to school with fresh school clothes means a lot to him and that he has appreciation for this. We here also appreciate this as we got to experience with him a very positive day and to see him excited. We understand that being in placement like this is not easy for him and to be able to give him the special moments means a lot, thank you.” – Social Worker

“He lives in a group home and REALLY wanted some MAGIC the Gathering stuff as there is a club at school he’s always wanted to join.  He is excited to make new friends.” – Social Worker

“They were so excited about the clothes they purchased that they changed into some of their new clothing as soon as we arrived back at their homes. We appreciate the generosity of the donors that made this possible! Thank you for coordinating this opportunity for the children!” – Foster Parent

“He had a great time shopping and was able to use his math skills with price comparisons. He wanted to make sure he was getting the best bang for his buck! He seemed to enjoy picking out all of his school supplies and then checking them off the list. I think his favorite purchase was a new pair of shoes. He was smiling from ear to ear when he found a pair that he liked. A very enjoyable shopping day was had! Thank you!!” – Foster Parent

MN ADOPT’s Back-to-School Fundraiser

MN ADOPT is, once again, teaming up with the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association statewide to shop with our children in foster care. For most kids, this time of year holds endless possibilities and offers a chance to start fresh. However, for those in foster care, it can be a time of trepidation and wondering if they’ll be able to join their peers in updating their wardrobe or school gear. With your contribution, you’ll be able to help a child join in the excitement of back-to-school shopping.

The MN ADOPT Back to School Shopping Event is funded solely through the generosity of businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the state of Minnesota. Be part of our team to give kids a shopping trip to remember!
Donations will be accepted until June 30, 2020.
